School Lunch Bills

It has recently come to my attention that there seems to be a misunderstanding regarding school lunches and the extras that are offered by our school cafeteria. Since COVID closed our schools, every student in Massachusetts has been provided free breakfast and lunch at school each day. This has been a great opportunity for our students and families and has increased participation in our school lunch program as well. While breakfast and lunch as a main meal is free, we often have students that would like a second lunch (2 hamburgers, etc.). Please note that if a student would like a second helping of lunch, they will be charged for the additional meal. Additionally, our schools offer snacks and/or ice cream on certain days. These are items for purchase and are not included in the state wide free meal program.

At Norton High School, we have several students with outstanding debt as they are helping themselves to snacks or additional meals without paying for them. If you do not want your student to be purchasing these items, please have this conversation with them at home. As we move forward, students will not be allowed to charge to their lunch account without funds available. If you have any questions about your child’s balance, please contact Mike Vaccaro at mvaccaro@norton.k12.ma.us

Congratulations NMS Distinguished Students!

Each year through the New England League of Middle Schools, students from each middle school in the state are selected for recognition as Distinguished Students. This program is intended to identify students who have distinguished themselves over the course of their middle school experience by demonstrating qualities such as

  • Teamwork

  • Positive Interactions with others

  • Respect

  • Dependability

  • Productivity

  • Service to others

  • Personal Goals

  • Respect for diversity

  • Empathy for others

Mukti Arun, Joseph Kenney, Patrick Regan, and Savannah Ryan have been selected by their teachers for distinguishing themselves through leadership, academic excellence, and respectful behavior during their time at NMS. These students will be recognized at an award ceremony on May 21st and will have their names added to a plaque displayed in the NMS rotunda. Congratulations Mukti, Joseph, Patrick, and Savannah!

NPS Students Focus on Mental Health

Earlier this month, NMS AP Ronnie Goldstein and NHS students Vanessa Lee & Benson Chang were interviewed by WBZ about their work with Project 351 and supporting student mental health. The feature aired earlier this week and is linked below. Thank you for representing NPS!
